U19 Girls LAST two games of the 2009 season

Our last two games are this Wednesday at home (Knox) vs Akron and NEXT Wednesday at Akron. Below summarizes what I believe to be the status of all players. As you can see we are very very tight for 7/28 at home. If anyone has a miraculous recovery or change in status, please let me know.

I am a bit more nebulous on the 8/5 status. Please review and again get back to me, specifically the ? If everyone one marked ? Attends that could be the LARGEST attended game of the season!!!

Please make sure to wear the WHITE T shirt-second jersey for both games. Not sure if it helped on Sunday in our win over Ken Ton but it sure did not hurt. IF you were not at that game to get your shirt, I have the rest of them and will bring them to the game.
Bear in mind we still have a chance at first if we win these last two games.

Last three games- We have a chance to win the division

First things first. Molly we all hope that your on the mend and feeling better. Our prayers for a speedy recovery are going out to you.

Ally too suffered an injury on Wednesday at a later game. Cut over her eye. She will be out a couple of games as well.

Due to a number of conflicts and injuries we were projecting to have only 9 or 10 girls for Sundays game vs Ken Ton. Reminder that the game is at Knox. Please be there by 11:20 am to warm up and check in.

Due to our shortage of players I have contacted two local players and they have agreed to join us for that game and potentially more if we continue to be short. They are on the email copy list.

Hannah Bourque who subbed for us in goal at Alexander and Colleen Bodkin who also plays on the East Aurora Bengals women's team have been added to our roster for the remainder of the season. Since we only had 17 we have a lot of room to add players. However it can not be a player already playing for any other team in BWNYJSL nor a dual player. Lucky for us these two are a great fit, they play on the East Aurora side so are familiar with many of you.
Please give them a warm welcome on Sunday. Once again we we actually have a sub.

OH, and BTW. IF we win against Ken Ton as well as the last two games vs Akron we still have a chance of winning our division. Ken Ton still has games vs West Seneca and PLYSL. WE play Akron twice.

Brockport Tournament Commentary

Just want to say a couple of things about the Brockport tournament. Had occasion to say some of this to the players at the end of the tournament but it bears repeating and perhaps elaborating upon. Please share this with your daughter.

Our competition at that tournament was comprised of elite teams from Cortland and Canada and a Rochester area A division U19 team. ALL of the teams were made up of mostly college players. Yes we have a couple of girls that are heading to college and many of those intend on playing as well. However our competition has already gained benefit of having been there and the training that goes along with a college athletic experience. What I am getting to is we played TOP level teams who are well trained, well coached.

What I told our players is I know that they are disappointed. No one goes into a tournament looking to do anything other than play well and win. Really something special about that glow that comes at the end of a game when you played well AND have a few more points on the scoreboard than your competition. The first game we really should have won. Marisa had possession and the goal the Canadian team scored should not have been allowed. We should have received 3 and 1/2 points for the win and a shut out.

Prior to the Empire United game our girls over heard them saying how we looked like a bunch of 8th graders. Well if that’s the case the modified team scored first. And for most of the 60 minutes we played even with the best team at that tournament. Unfortunately in the final game we just could not put the ball in the net. We definitely had some very good opportunities but just did not capitalize. Afterwards the other coach told me that it was the best game of the tournament for his team and we played his even.

Key in what I told the players is they played smart, they played with skill and they played with heart. The competition they faced in the tournament will make them better. When they play against teams like Cheektowaga and Sweet Home, yes they come away with a 10-0 win but have gained very little from that game. They are not tested. Nothing about a blowout will will make them stronger. Last weekend they were tested and met the challenge. They have absolutely no reason to hang their head.

The Empire United coach was beside himself most of the game. He got downright belligerent to his players. And afterward he could barely see fit to shake our hands. However his assistant did shake my hand, looked me in the eye and say "You have a very nice team. They did well today We are lucky to win"

Practice and Game Cancelled

Our practice on June 29 as well as the game vs Akron for July 1 are cancelled. The contact information for Akron is incorrect so I am working with BWNYJSL to reschedule the game. MORE to come soon.

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

NO game tonight. June 24. Rescheduled for July 26.

Later I will update our team calendar. However just want to verify for all of you that there is NO game tonight at Knox. Ken Ton had half their team out of town and would have to forfeit. Since we want to play games we did reschedule and the game will be played on Sunday July 26 at NOON. Hopefully this starting time will be good for those that have evening commitments like jobs.

I still have NOT heard back from Brockport on our status for that tournament. IF for some reason that does not work, perhaps we can do Lancaster-Depew. MORE to come on that.

Monday, June 22, 2009

CANCELING Practice June 22

VERY sorry about the late notice. I need to cover a meeting late today that was not on my schedule. It is with our west coast office so it is probably going to go very late. Therefore I am going to cancel tonight's Practice. I did send a text message.
We do NOT have a game this Wednesday so enjoy the week off.
Take care

Brockport Tournament and Game reschedule

Going to address the game reschedule first. Next weeks game vs. Ken Ton has been postponed. The proposed date is Sunday 7/26/09. Game would either be at 4pm or the usual 6:30pm start at Knox. Right now I believe I have 10 YES, one NO and a bunch that I either did not see a response…or I lost it. Anyone in yellow with a ? Please respond asap. OR if your status has changed. I would like to get back to the coach. IF we do not respond the game will automatically be scheduled for August 5. I know all of us would probably like the season to finish as scheduled in late July.

Secondly, the Brockport tournament is July 18 & 19. To date we have 12 yes. That is 2-3 short of what we would need to field a team. IF we get 2-3 more it would be a GO but only if we can collect the fees in time. I would like to make sure that we have the commitment and the fee covered up front. Again, please confirm your status.

With either event please respond via email OR text.

Thanks a lot.

Alexander Tournament Follow up- Practice and Game reminder

First of all would like to thank Hannah Bourque (Nancy copied) and Dani Braun for helping us out at the Alexander. (Crista can you make sure to forward to Dani. I do not have her email address) I appreciate you stepping in on short notice. Good luck to both of you for the rest of the season.

The action was fast paced and as we all saw it was sometimes just a matter of inches separating goal from no goal and win from defeat. Seven players on a half field makes for some exciting soccer. Every player with a major role to play. Bottom-line is all 14 girls played extremely well and contributed to the OVERALL position of the team in the tournament. We certainly would have loved to have finished in first. I say lets take that frustration out on Wednesday in our upcoming league game.

If you have not yet paid for the event please catch up to me on Wednesday.

NO practice on Monday. Time to rest and recuperate.

Our next game is WEDNESDAY 06/17/09. The PLYSA Toros at Aurora Arsenal U19. Game is home at KNOX #3. Please be at Knox by 5:45 pm for warmup and check in. As usual, let me know if you are not able to make it. At this time I believe we will have all 17 girls.

Alexander Tournament

Attached is our schedule for Sunday. And a link to directions to the Alexander tournament. First game is at 8am for both squads. It’s at 45 minute drive from the WRAZEN household. We will be leaving about 6:30am at the latest to get there on time. IF you need to carpool please let me know ahead of time.

When you GET there we will let you know if you are on Arsenal 1 or Arsenal 2. Bottomline is we are going to split the teams as best we can so that we have equal talent on both. We will not have any subs so you will need to be prepared to play the entire time (unless one or two of those that cant make it can now make it to the tournament) I would think that we could handle one or two more. So if you change your mind please let me know.

Bear in mind if you have NOT been to Alexander before, getting to the school seems like half the trip. You will not see the fields from the school parking lot. To the right (east) rear of the parking lot you will see a gravel road past the football field. That road will take you up to the Field of Dreams. It has to be a half mile but seems much much longer

Please be at the FIELD by 7:20 am at the latest. That way I can take role and we can warm up prior to play.

Cost is $22 per player. Please bring a check if at all possible so that I make SURE of who has paid. OR if you do bring cash please attach a slip of paper with your name.

Make sure to bring plenty of water or Gatorade, sunscreen and something to sit or lie on for between games. I will try to remember to bring my canopy. If someone else has one please bring that as well. ONE other thing to bring are baby wipes for cleanup. I honestly cant remember any running water at the field. They do have very reasonably priced concessions at the field but bringing something lite to eat is a good idea as well.

U19 Girls Practice Monday June 8 and Game at N. Pioneer Wednesday June 10

Practice this week will be on Monday June 8 from 6:30 pm to 8 pm at Knox. We may change and or add a couple to Sunday but for now our practice date is a Monday.

Bear in mind I do post most information to our U19 Aurora Arsenal Girls website. You can access it at http://auroraarsenalu19girls.blogspot.com/

Game this week is vs Niagara Pioneer at Old Fort Niagara. WE need to leave East Aurora pretty early to get to the Fort on time to warmup and check in.

Below are directions to the Fort from the Wrazen household. Takes about an hour to get there. Meeting at our house to car pool is a great idea since we are only a couple of miles from the 400. We live at 18 Highland which is the second right at the top of the hill coming up Maple to the 400. IF you need a ride please email or TEXT me so we can figure out space requirements. We will leave approximately 4:55pm.

The park charges parking thus we probably will wait until 6pm to enter the park. Do me a favor and make sure to have your shingards and spikes on when we get there so we can start warming up immediately.

Currently I anticipate having 16 players for the game. To the best of my knowledge only Faith has a conflict. If that is not correct, please let me know.

Details on Alexander will be in a separate email this evening.

Practice May 31 and First Game is Wednesday June 3

Practice this week is set for Sunday May 31 from 4 pm to 5:30 pm. We will hand our uniforms, practice our warmup and scrimmage the U16 girls.

First Game is Wednesday June 3 at Knox. PLEASE be at the field by 5:45 pm to have adequet time to warm up and go through check in. If you will NOT be there I need you to contact me as soon as possible. Right now only Emily looks to have a conflict.

Practice CANCELLED for Thursday May 28 due to Thunderstorms

Practice for Thursday May 28 has been cancelled due to severe thunderstorm warnings.

PLEASE make sure to attend our session on Sunday. We will be walking thru some things in preparation for Wednesdays game.

Game is Wednesday June 3 at Knox vs West Seneca. Right now I only know of Emily not being able to play because of a school concert. IF that is not correct then you must let me know.

Updated Practice schedule

Hope your enjoying your Memorial Holiday Weekend.

Due to a projected HIGH absentee level on Wednesday due to LAX playoffs I am moving our practice session to Thursday May 28. At that session I will hand out our new uniforms. I hesitate to use the term mandatory but please make every reasonable attempt to be there for the practice. It will be light duty and some walk troughs so even if your team is continuing into the playoffs it will not put you at risk for injury.

Sunday May 31 is our final session before the start of the season on Wednesday June 3. (BTW, I believe that we only have one projected absentee for that game, thus I am expecting 16 players that date. IF you are not available please let me know ASAP) I would like to finalize our plans for the Alexander and Brockport tournaments by that time. Below is a summary of interest in the tournaments. IF I have incorrect information, please let me know ASAP. Right now it looks like we would have enough players for two teams at Alexander (7v7) and strong interest in Brockport. Costs are estimated based on 14 at each tournament.

Wednesday May 27- Practice- Knox- 6:30 to 8 pm Cancelled

Thursday May 28- RESCHEDULE Practice- Knox- 6:30 to 8 pm
UNIFORM HANDOUT

Sunday May 31 Practice- Knox- 4 to 5:30 pm- FINALIZE Tournament plans

CANCELING Wednesday May 20 Practice

Due to an extraordinary number of conflicts I am going to cancel practice Wednesday May 20. At BEST we will have 5-6 girls. Please keep your eye open for a follow up email from me. We do not have practice this upcoming weekend due to the holiday so I may try to add in a session next week. There are still a few things to cover prior to the start of the season on June 3.

Saturday, May 16, 2009

Next outdoor practice is Sunday May 17 at 4pm

Reminder that the next outdoor practice is Sunday May 17. Our session on Sunday will be a combined one with the U16 Girls. We will meet at KNOX road and practice will begin sharply at 4:00pm. I have also sent out a mass text reminder. Will continue to do so with each practice and game.
IF you cannot make it please let me know via email or text. I have already heard back from a number of you. You know who you are, so thanks a lot. It really helps to have your feedback. Those that have not responded, please do so.

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

Outdoor Practice starts Wednesday May 13

Reminder that outdoor practice starts Wednesday May 13. We will meet at KNOX road and practice will begin sharply at 6:30pm. I have also sent out a mass text reminder. Will continue to do so with each practice and game.

IF you cannot make it please let me know via email or text. I have already heard back from a number of you. You know who you are, so thanks a lot. It really helps to have your feedback. Those that have not responded, please do so.

Playing time BTW will be based on three things.

Attitude
Attendance
Ability

You can earn MORE playing time by having a great attitude, getting to practice (on time and prepared) and of course that will make you a better player.

Initial U19 Girls Team Calendar

I emailed the Initial U19 Girls Team Calendar on Wednesday May 6, 2009. This calendar covers all practices and tournaments in addition to the league schedule in the next post. PLEASE print, read, review and respond as soon as you can. There are some of you who respond fully and in a timely manner. Thank you very much. However I also need responses from everyone else.

Please review the practices and games and let me know if you will not be able to attend. I have some time to reschedule if there are a lot of girls with conflicts.

Practice starts NEXT Wednesday at Knox. We do not start games until June 3. (correction)

Please review the June 14 Alexander and July 18-19 Brockport tournaments. These are two tournaments that based on the initial responses might work well for our team. The Wilson tournament does NOT. If you have not already responded please let me know if you would like to participate. With the Alexander 7v7 we could support TWO teams. One potentially at U17 and another at U19. Brockport is about an hour and a half away. People could either commute or we can look into an overnight in the area. Key would be in locking in the tournament.

NOTE that we have the June 24 home game scheduled for Hamlin Park. At Knox June 24 to 29 will be a replica of the Viet Nam wall. The projection is there will be up to 100,000 people attending over the 5 days. Thus parking at the soccer lot will be an issue if projections are accurate. Also we have one Monday night game on July 13. The league took this step to finish the season by the end of July rather than going into August. Should give many the opportunity to have a couple of weeks off of soccer.

Any questions or issues, please let me know.
